A chance encounter with blind contour drawing— drawing without looking at or lifting your pencil from the paper. This blind date will transform the way you look, see and observe. Warm up with a series of timed exercises drawing household objects then translate your drawings into wire.
Participants of all ages and experience are welcome.
Natalie Purschwitz and Carey Schaefer divide their time between art and design. They are interested in how the ways we live intersect with forms of cultural production. They share the Elm Park Field House Studio as part of the Vancouver Parks Board Fieldhouse Studio Program.
One of the earliest community centres to be built in Vancouver, Kerrisdale Community Centre was constructed in 1952. Serving a neighbourhood comprised of a growing senior's population with a recent influx of young families there is something for everyone available through this very popular centre. An indoor pool, exercise room, gymnasium, public library and seniors' wing comprise the main building complex with Kerrisdale's Cyclone Taylor Skating Arena (with summer indoor play area 'The Kerrisdale Play Palace') sited just two blocks away. Recreation programs of all description, for all ages can be found here along with swimming programs, lessons and a well-equipped fitness centre. Pottery, dance, health and fitness programs plus an indoor children's play area can all be found at Kerrisdale Community Centre. Outdoor amenities include a children's playground and a lovely hybrid tea rose garden at the west end of the centre's surrounding Kerrisdale Centennial Park.
