JUNE 14, 2014 10am – 12pm West End Community Centre | 870 Denman Street FREE | No registration required
Using conventional drawing tools and your physical being, join artist Ghazel Abassalian to create a large-scale drawing in the lobby of the West End Community Centre. Approach drawing in a different way than you thought possible—draw with your head, blindfolded using both hands or directed by your friend and even use the Matisse approach of a pencil on a long stick!
Participants of all ages and experience are welcome.
Ghazel Abassalian was born in Tehran, raised in the Netherlands where she completed her BFA at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy with a major in video art. Currently living and working in Vancouver, she has a studio at the Gam gallery. Ghazel has exhibited her work in France, England, Germany and the Netherlands. The artistic focus in her video works has been mainly on the inner conflict experienced as a young artist, evoking two opposing responses of “GENIUS” and “failure” in which there is no middle ground, only constant conflict.
The West End Community Centre is a 50,000-plus square foot facility that houses seven rooms for rent, a pre-school, an Out-of-School Children's Care Centre, a full gym, auditorium, library, a pottery studio and the West End's only Skating Rink/Arena.
