FLASH MOB SKETCHERS
GRANDVIEW PARK

JUNE 14, 2014
1pm – 2pm
Grandview Park | Commercial Drive (between William and Charles Streets)
FREE | No registration required

Flash Mob Sketchers is a choreographed presentation coordinated by Britannia Community Centre. It will involve a series of short drawing sessions led by guest artist James Melcher and musical accompaniment by Tim Sars and the Carnival Band. As well other local artists will transform the walkway at Grandview Park into a long winding “canvas." Participants are encouraged to bring easels, paper and pencils to sketch the local environment.

Participants of all ages and experience are welcome.

Many thanks to Opus Art Supplies for their generous donation of sketchbooks and pencils.

James Melcher is a multi-disciplinary artist, life coach and writer. Geometry of Color was his most recent exhibit of vibrant mosaic paintings that engage the viewer with a playful, joyous energy.

Born in Cleveland, Ohio, James received a BFA in ceramics form The Cleveland Institute of Art. James is currently working on a commission of four paintings that includes underwater scenes of tropical fish. Photography is another passion, and the stunning natural setting of Vancouver provides him with inspiration.

The Carnival Band is an East Vancouver brass and drum explosion of community spirited musicians that have a love for calypso, samba, jazz and funk. Leaders Ross Barrett and Tim Sars bring their audiences on the crazy musical journey they have navigated over the past decade.

The Carnies have travelled to the USA, Europe, China, and all over British Columbia, instilling joy and love all along their path. From the driving Surdo bass drums, brassy trombones, the screeching trumpets, and the raging saxophones, the Carnival Band is sure to move you.
