Join artist Jennifer Skillen to invent and build an "Idea Machine" and fill it with your creative ideas! Let’s break a few rules, get creative and think outside the box. Forget paper, we’re going to doodle on the windows to create a fantastic idea machine, drawing on the BIG DRAW theme of STEAM power - incorporating Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics. Come and help the machine grow throughout the day! Everyone of all ages welcome. Participants of all ages and experience are welcome.
Jennifer Skillen began teaching art to children in Vancouver as a volunteer in 2007, while studying for her Bachelor of Fine Arts at Emily Carr University. She has been teaching art classes at Killarney Community Centre since 2012. Jennifer uses her creative sensibilities to share her love of imagination, forms, found objects, colour, abstraction and art history with children of all abilities, developing courses like Art Time Travelers and Art and Stories. Jennifer spends her free time painting, knitting, daydreaming and playing in a local rock band. Her work has been shown throughout the lower mainland, including a solo show at the White Rock Community Centre Gallery in the summer and fall of 2013. Jennifer has lived in Ontario, British Columbia and the Yukon, and has traveled throughout Canada and the U.S. by car, studying and painting the landscapes and skies. As a Registered Nurse working with children since 1997, she has developed a heightened interest in the art of children. Teaching children’s art classes at Killarney is the highlight of her week. This is Jennifer’s third year as a Draw Down/Big Draw artist.
