Indigenous drawing through storytelling Mount Pleasant Neighbourhood House

Artist Randy Tait will engage with participants through indigenous storytelling. Participants will be encouraged to use their imagination and creativity to draw what they are hearing through the traditional stories have many elements of transformation and transcend time linking past and present. This workshop aims to inspire and invoke more life and spirit discovering BC’s history.
Participants of all ages and experience are welcome.
Randy Tait is from the Nisga'a/ Gitxsan Nation and from the Drumming Grouse/ Killer Whale clan. In 1982 Randy studied under master carver, Walter Harris, Earl Muldoe, Vernon Stevens and Ken Mowatt at K'san carving school in Hazleton, BC. He completed an intense two-year wood carving courses, where he learned the traditions of his ancestors of how to respect, treat and carve wood, working mainly with yellow and red cedar.
Randy learned how to carve totem poles, masks, feast bowls, paddles, plaques, etc... that tells the stories of his people’s rich heritage. Nisga'a/ Gitxsan legends and stories prove a treasure trove of inspiration.
Mount Pleasant Neighbourhood House is a multi-service non-profit agency, providing a wide range of services to neighbours in the Mount Pleasant neighbourhood. Our mission is to connect neighbours and build community. It is located centrally in East Vancouver, easily accessible via transit on East Broadway.
