ARCHIVE 2012 - Inside and Out at Satellite Gallery
Saturday, June 9, 2012 from 1:00pm - 5:00pm
Satellite Gallery, 560 Seymour Street, 2nd Floor, Vancouver BC FREE From inside and out, Satellite Gallery will be an active environment for mark making of all kinds. A total of 4 different creative activities are available to take part in.
Inside the gallery, you are invited to participate in a drawing workshop led by artist Diane Espiritu, inspired by the current exhibition Elegant Disorder: Perspectives on Porcelain (May 12 to June 23, 2012). The exhibition features works by Sin-Ying Ho, Paul Mathieu, Elizabeth Zvonar, Brendan Tang, and Shelley Miller, who create ceramic objects with new identities that look at culture on a global scale. Learn more about the exhibition with curator Louis-Alexandre Douesnard-Malo, and later create your own object of new possibilities using ceramic fragments found in several local artists’ studios. Photographs of the final artworks will be shared online to complete the circle of exchange. The main entrance to Satellite Gallery will be transformed into a 12-foot-high paper tunnel. Ladders and unique pulley systems will be designed to allow for creative mark making, and there will be invisible markers for ideas revealed only at night. Outside, Satellite Gallery's storefront window will offer opportunities to digitally spin and decorate clay pots using a touch-screen monitor and an application by iDREAMS. Satellite Gallery is an experimental exhibition space shared by three arts institutions—Presentation House Gallery, the Morris and Helen Belkin Art Gallery (UBC), and the Museum of Anthropology (UBC)—and is a Michael O’Brian Family Foundation project. |
Inside and Out is generously supported by Opus Art Supplies and NCIX.
