Uncontrolled Abstract Mail Art Postcards Mystery Faces Plus, Let Us Draw On You! at Britannia
Saturday, June 15, 2013 (see times below) Britannia Community Centre, 1661 Napier Street, Vancouver FREE
Uncontrolled Abstract 2 – 4:30pm In this come and go workshop, Asa Mori will lead participants in a drawing workshop with "drawing device". Participants will draw an object with a pen or brush attached with string where your fingers are not in direct contact with the drawing medium. The workshop will experiment with the concept that the drawing is not merely technical skill. The not-easily-controlled "drawing device" and attempted to draw actual object will turn into "abstract" with unexpected lines and shapes.
Mail Art Postcards 1 - 4pm Join artist Laura Bucci to learn about mail art, a worldwide cultural movement that began in the early 60s and involves sending visual art through the postal system. Make a collage postcard using a variety of paper, rubber stamping, postal stickers, washi tape (decorative adhesive tape), colour pencils and markers. A typewriter will be available to add your own text. Bring an old postcard to work on and any paper or rubber stamping supplies you have – we hope you are willing to share some of your supplies! Make a postcard for a friend or submit one to an international project. Check out http://mailartprojects.blogspot.ca/ . Free but please register at Britannia! Course # 42920.201BR
Mystery Faces 2 – 4:30pm in the Family Activity Room Drop in for this “fold over” collaborative project to create a fantastical face. This is a workshop sponsored by the Britannia Art Gallery. Donations are gratefully accepted at the door and directly fund future community outreach workshops.
