Walking, Looking, Drawing: Micro Macro Perspectives Stanley Park A Frame, Ceperly Meadow, (Second Beach)
OCT 1, 2016 1pm – 4pm Stanley Park A Frame, Ceperly Meadow, (Second Beach) FREE | No registration required Second Workshop - Oct 15 from 1-4pm
For the Big Draw event, Urban Animal Agency member Genevieve Robertson is pleased to welcome guest artist Lucie Chan, who's drawing practice engages drawers of all ages and abilities. We will look closely at the natural world around us in a playful, inquisitive way. Go on a fieldwalk to explore the shoreline of Second beach in Stanley Park, and look deeply to explore intertidal beings with the tenacity to survive between the aquatic and the terrestrial, the ocean and the rocks. Carefully collecting small objects from nature we’ll return to the fieldhouse to examine them under a microscope peeking into an intimate world unseen by the human eye. Drawing will be our form of knowledge exchange – working small to gather information together. Then we’ll scale up our micro drawings to create a giant collaborative scroll of illustrations that magnifies and adapts our discoveries.
Participants of all ages and experience are welcome.
The Urban Animal Agency is a collective of artists and ecologists interested in the ways that people and other animals coexist and collectively define urban spaces. Through research projects, public engagements and art-based interventions, we look to reimagine concepts of ‘nature’ and ‘wilderness’ that separate us from other animals. In so doing, we look to illuminate the city as a shared space, and to reflect on what it means to consider ourselves urban animals. For the Big Draw UAA is pleased to welcome guest artist Lucy Chan, whose drawing practice engages drawers of all ages and abilities.
The Urban Animal Agency works in partnership with Stanley Park Ecology Society, with support from the Vancouver Park Board – Arts, Culture and Engagement, and City of Vancouver Cultural Services.
Second Beach in Stanley Park is located at the junction of Stanley Park Dr and North Lagoon Dr next to Second Beach Pool, an oceanside, heated, outdoor pool
