Donny Harrison is inspired and intrigued by the healing affects of making art, and studies psychoneuroimmunology–investigating how positive emotions brought on by making art can influence vital physiological mind-body connections. He is studying Psychology at SFU with a minor in First Nations studies and in 2015, plans to continue working on a master’s degree in counseling and a certificate in Art Therapy.
Carnegie Community Centre—often referred to as the living room of the Downtown Eastside—provides social, educational, cultural and recreational activities on-site, at nearby Oppenheimer Park and through an outreach team. The programs serve low income adults with the goal of nurturing mind, body, and spirit in a safe and welcoming environment.
Oppenheimer Park is a popular gathering place, which provides social, educational, recreational, and cultural programs and services to a diverse neighbourhood. The park provides space for neighbourhood events put on by other community groups, such as the Powell Street Festival and National Aboriginal Day.
